Brookfield Infrastructure Partners to Acquire Hotwire

On Friday, Brookfield Infrastructure Partners announced a deal to acquire Hotwire Communications from its parent company, Blackstone, according to a press release on Hotwire’s website.

Hotwire Communications is a broadband service provider serving Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Texas.

No details of the transaction were offered in the reports. Blackstone purchased Hotwire Communications in 2019.

“We are thrilled to welcome Brookfield Infrastructure as a strategic investor and owner of Hotwire alongside the management team. Their infrastructure expertise and partnership-oriented approach make them an ideal collaborator to maintain the core values of Hotwire as we expand our footprint and continue to deliver industry-leading technology and award-winning customer service,” said Kristin Johnson, co-founder and CEO of Hotwire, in the announcement.

“Together, we are poised to address the increasing importance of fiber infrastructure in everyday life. We are deeply grateful to our previous partner Blackstone for their tremendous support during a transformative period for Hotwire.”

Brookfield Infrastructure Partners’ acquisition of Hotwire Communications is not the company’s first in recent years. In 2019, the firm acquired Cincinnati Bell for approximately $2.6 billion, including debt.

As of the end of the third quarter of 2019, Cincinnati Bell reported 269,000 fiber broadband subscribers. Fiber connections were available to 653,000 locations across the carrier’s entire footprint.

Earlier that year, Brookfield Infrastructure Partners purchased data center colocation operations and assets from AT&T, which had previously announced a strategic alliance with Brookfield that included transferring these operations and assets.

Brookfield established a wholly owned company, Evoque Data Center Solutions (“Evoque”), to own and operate the assets. Customer contracts, employees supporting the colocation operations, fixed assets, leases, and specified owned facilities have been transferred to Brookfield.

Hotwire, which will now become a Brookfield asset, is headquartered in Florida.
