Conterra Networks Sells Fiber Assets in Parts of New Mexico to Ezee Fiber

A sale with the potential to spur the growth of high-speed bandwidth in some New Mexico markets was announced this week between Charlotte, North Carolina-based Conterra Networks — a provider of fiber-based telecommunications services to enterprise, carrier, education, government, and data center customers — and Houston-based Ezee Fiber, a broadband fiber provider.

The transaction involved Conterra Networks selling its Santa Fe, Rio Rancho and Los Lunas, New Mexico, fiber assets and network to Ezee Fiber. Although terms of the deal were not disclosed, Ezee Fiber said it included 128 miles of high-quality, installed fiber infrastructure spanning these areas in northern and central New Mexico.

“The acquisition enables us to significantly accelerate our Fiber-to-the-Home network deployment in New Mexico, addressing the large and growing consumer demand for high-speed fiber internet service from local, customer-first companies like Ezee Fiber,” said Matt Marino, chief executive officer of Ezee Fiber, in the announcement.

Conterra Networks said it works with providers like Ezee Fiber to maximize the value of its excess fiber assets. Reinvesting proceeds in things such as network densification and enhancing service offerings support the company’s long-term growth strategy. Conterra Networks also partners with other fiber providers, leasing its networks and selling dark fiber in its service areas.

“We’re excited to work with Ezee Fiber to maximize the potential of our fiber assets. Together, we are driving the growth of high-speed bandwidth in these communities. This initiative plays a crucial role in enabling us to reinvest in our markets and better serve the evolving needs of our customers,” said Conterra Networks President and CEO Craig Gunderson.

Earlier this year, Ezee Fiber announced its intention to expand its fiber network into Albuquerque, New Mexico, with more than $250 million in investments and jobs creation in construction, operations, community relations and sales. The buildout is expected to deliver premium, multi-gig fiber internet to residential and business customers there.
