February Robocall Volume Surges Nearly 12% From One Year Ago: Report

Robocall volume in aggregate decreased by 6% in February 2025 compared with January 2025. The drop, however, was attributed to the month being three days shorter than January. In all, U.S. consumers received more than 4.4 billion robocalls in February, as measured by the YouMail Robocall Index.

What’s more, when examining the per-day and per-second call robocall volume, February had 159 million robocalls per day and 1,840 robocalls per second. This is 4% higher than January’s averages and an 11.9% year-over-year increase from February 2024.

YouMail CEO Alex Quilici explained in a prepared statement, “Robocall volume in February is down, but only because the month had fewer days than January. It’s clear that robocall volumes are no longer trending down when we examine them on a daily basis.”

The YouMail Robocall Index analyzes unwanted and hazardous call traffic attempting to infiltrate the YouMail app. The free app is designed to provide consumer protection from these calls, texts and voicemails.

In February, notifications (down by 6%), payment reminders (down by 9.3%), and telemarketing (down by 8.7%) occurred more infrequently than in January. However, there were 4.1% more scam robocalls in February.

Scam and telemarketing robocall volume combined reached more than 2.4 billion last month, comprising 54% of all robocalls.

February’s most troublesome robocall campaign revolved around pre-approved personal loans. This campaign closely resembled January’s top nuisance robocalls, with only minor differences in the caller’s identity, their alleged origin, and the stated consolidation loan amount. The Robocall Index said the way this campaign is conducted suggests the potential risk of identity theft.

The top 10 area codes that were most affected (by robocall volume) in February were:

  • 832 – Houston, Texas,
  • 404 – Atlanta, Georgia
  • 803 – Columbia, South Carolina
  • 214 – Dallas, Texas
  • 678 – Atlanta, Georgia
  • 843 – Charleston, South Carolina
  • 901 – Memphis, Tennessee
  • 706 – Augusta, Georgia
