Windstream’s Kinetic business announced today that its “Project Gas Pedal” supplied faster internet speeds to approximately 26,000 Kinetic customers last year thanks to its program of free upgrades.
The project, launched in 2018, relies on the company’s technology and infrastructure upgrades. Since its inception, more than 314,000 Kinetic customers have been provided with these speed upgrades, which have averaged 10 megabits per household. Kinetic said that customers are upgraded to the fastest speeds available based on the technology at their homes.
Kinetic customers throughout the company’s 18-state coverage area have been eligible to receive the speed upgrades for no additional cost.
“Kinetic is proud to offer these free upgrades as part of our ongoing commitment to deliver the best possible service to our customers,” said Kinetic Chief Marketing Officer Ben Midanek in a press release. “Through Gas Pedal, we’re not only improving internet speeds but also reinforcing our promise to support our communities with reliable and fast connectivity.”
The company offered another point of view to demonstrate Project Gas Pedal’s impact: In 2024, Kinetic provided speed upgrades for a cumulative total of more than 1.3 million Mbps, the equivalent of 1 million 10-second Snapchats or 8 million emails.
Kinetic said its upgrade project uses advanced provisioning profiles, which enable the company to “configure and allocate network resources efficiently as new technologies come online.” It acknowledged that the number of annual upgrades is now beginning to decline with a decrease in the number of customers served by copper cables.
