Spectrum Mobile offered the fastest overall speeds than other providers in its area during Global Wireless Solutions, Inc. cellular and WiFi speed test conducted in the company’s seven-state service area, the carrier announced this week. It marked the seventh straight quarter that Spectrum Mobile had topped other carriers in the tests.
The cellular and WiFi speed tests for Spectrum, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon mobile customers were conducted between July 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021.
Spectrum parent company Charter Communications has some aggressive plans for this year, expecting to have a mobile radio access network fully deployed across one of its larger markets “by the end of this year and going into next year.”
Based on the Global Wireless Solutions, Inc. test, Spectrum Mobile customers had data speeds that were 43% faster than Verizon’s, 41% faster than T-Mobile’s and 29% faster than AT&T’s during the first quarter of this year, extending the fastest speed streak that dates back to the third quarter of 2019.
In a prepared statement, Danny Bowman, chief mobile officer for Charter Communications, which operates the Spectrum brand of services, said: “These results show that Spectrum Mobile is the clear choice for consumers who care about speed and value from their mobile provider. By blending our state-of-the-art WiFi with our cellular service, including 5G and 4G LTE, we’re giving customers access to the fastest mobile service available, and doing so in a way that gives them the freedom to use their favorite devices the way they want, while saving them money.”
The company attributed the faster speeds to a high percentage (80%) of Spectrum Mobile’s traffic occurring over faster WiFi, rather than over slower cellular networks. That’s the twist, when counting the Wi-Fi experience, Spectrum Mobile claims the mobile speed crown. That’s a bit of a different approach than typical mobile speed tests.
