TDS Fiber Expansion Notches Another Wisconsin Market

TDS Telecommunications’ fiber expansion activity in Wisconsin is continuing as the Eau Claire city council has voted unanimously to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the service provider to expand with a fiber network in the city.

Preconstruction on the expansion now is set to start. TDS is making a $30 million capital investment in the project, which will include about 300 additional miles of fiber and will reach 33,000 residential and business addresses. Construction will begin in the spring of 2022.

The network, which will be capable of symmetrical 1 Gbps speed, will offer TDS TV+ and phone services to residential subscribers and dedicated connections, TDS TV+ and hosted VoIP services to business customers.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring our reliable fiber-to-the-home network to this thriving community,” Andrew Petersen The Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs for TDS, said in a press release. “We look forward to partnering with the city to build a future-proof network that will help drive economic growth.”

TDS, which is based in Madison, WI, is paying a lot of attention to The Badger State:

At the beginning of this month, TDS announced the completion of a fiber expansion project in Stoughton. The network build was announced in 2019 and completed ahead of time. It involved 82 miles of fiber and is bringing service to more than 7,300 business and residential addresses.

In February, TDS said that it had started fiber builds in the Wisconsin communities of Appleton, Little Chute, Kaukauna, Kimberly, Menasha, and Neenah, which is known as the Fox Cities area. The company expects to provide services to the first of what eventually will be 60,000 addresses before the end of the summer. Residential customers will have access to 1 Gbps service, while business customers will have capacity options up to 10 Gbps.

Last November, TDS said that the first 530 addresses in Rothschild, WI can get service. Eventually, more than 2,400 addresses in the community will have access to TDS’s network. The company is expanding to more than 35,700 addresses in Rothschild, Kronenwetter, Weston, and Wausau.
