Three More States Get Treasury Capital Projects Fund Awards

The U.S. Treasury has awarded Capital Projects Fund money to Arizona, Tennessee and Wyoming.

The funding is intended to cover some of the costs of making broadband available to 190,000 unserved and underserved locations. The fund has a budget of $10 billion.

States can use the funding for a variety of infrastructure projects and some are devoting a considerable part of the funding to broadband.

The awards made today:

Arizona is approved to receive $99.4 million for high-speed internet infrastructure, which the state estimates will connect 127,807 locations to high-speed internet access. It represents 52% of the state’s total allocation under the Capital Project Funds program.

Arizona’s award will fund “the two high-speed internet infrastructure programs that aim to provide reliable internet access to areas of the state lacking adequate service,” a press release explains. These are the Arizona Broadband Development Rural Infrastructure Grant program (ABDG-Rural) and the Arizona Broadband Development Urban Infrastructure Grant program (ABDG-Urban).

ABDG-Rural is a competitive grant program targeting the state’s 13 rural counties. The ABDG-Urban targets the state’s two urban counties.

Tennessee is approved to receive $185 million for high-speed internet infrastructure, which the state estimates will connect 50,000 locations to high-speed internet access. It represents 86% of the state’s total allocation under the Capital Project Fund program.

Tennessee’s award will fund two high-speed internet infrastructure programs, including Tennessee’s Last Mile Connection program and Tennessee’s Middle Mile Buildout Program.

Wyoming is approved to receive $70.5 million for high-speed internet infrastructure, which the state estimates will connect 11,700 locations to high-speed internet access. It represents 64% of the state’s total allocation under the CPF program.

The award will fund the Connect Wyoming grant program, a competitive grant program designed to fund last mile broadband infrastructure projects in areas throughout the state that currently lack access to internet at speeds of 100/20 Mbps.
